The Expansive Body begins. Why now?
Have you ever had life unexpectedly sweep you up and cast you into new waves - the currents surprising, your skin scraping against fresh sand? You’re a baby in this territory, but not naive. You’ve experienced enough to be savvy and so you surrender to transformation when you see it happening.
I haven’t moved but somehow I’m in new geography, and yet it feels like deja vu. The main theme of my body of work in my career is in dealing with the Body: its healing, health, and how we communicate with it. After years of working in obvious and materialistic ways with the human body, hearing the intelligence of the subtle and unseen forces within and around us is now undeniable - and it's reshaping how I understand and work with clients. The body I behold now includes an expanded definition. Looking back, I always saw it this way, I just didn’t realize it.
I’m here to speak to the spectrum of the mind-body and to bridge the earthly with the spiritual. I’ve been a professional dancer, movement teacher, movement therapist, somatic therapist, and am now studying energy healing and intuition. Why not blend all of these together and offer a diverse meal of deep nutrition? Even though I practice many things, it’s essentially all the same thing.
It’s like being a bartender—when customers walk in, they each get their own specific cocktail with different ingredients. But at the root of it, I’m still dealing in ‘magical elixirs’ that open people up to new and better ways of living in the world. One day, it looks like breaking down walking or hiking alignment; the next, it’s dance therapy with attuned counseling; then, energy healing within restorative exercise postures. I work holistically, and in constant relationship to what’s present in the moment.
If the issues we have are multidimensional in nature, don’t we need a broader vocabulary that includes tools from multiple systems? We can logically separate the mind, body and spirit, but in reality, they are one and the same.
What really blows the gasket off though, is in learning (ie., experiencing) that our body isn’t just our body - it’s actually connected to E V E R Y T H I N G in space and time, and the you that lives on and on.
Does that mean I’m a bartender that serves up the universe? Essentially…? But it’s actually you that I’m serving, to yourself.
(But, honestly, shyly…I’m writing to practice letting myself be seen.)
Writing also helps me clarify what is. It’s a microscope and a butterfly net, helping me capture the Beauty in my life as it’s happening. It expresses and communicates the Source flowing through me, and my curiosity is endless. My life is as bright as it’s ever been, and writing is in my heritage - that instinct to spend a lot of time with a pen. I hope my wanderings of spirit, in some small way, inspire and uplift the world around me.
